Financial Planning

In a recent survey conducted by India Connect we found that the challenges faced by Indian Companies in South Africa mostly related to administrative issues such as short term insurance and matters involving staff benefits such as medical aid.

Some of the findings were as follows:

  • Difficult to become a member of a medical aid because of insufficient creditable coverage. This results in:
  • Late joiner penalties of between 5% and 75%
  • 3 month general waiting periods
  • 12 month condition specific waiting periods
  • Short Term Insurance becomes expensive due to no proof of previous cover
  • Risk benefits are usually priced over a lifetime instead of a shorter period
  • Human Resources and Payroll departments do not necessarily have the expertise required
  • Accounting and Tax departments might  not necessarily have the knowledge of the South African legal system
  • Difficulty in buying or leasing vehicles
