The 4th World Tamil Economic Conference to kick off in Durban

The 4th World Tamil Economic Conference will commence this week at the Durban ICC.

The conference brings together the Tamil community from Tamil Nadu in India and Tamilians under one platform to discuss business and investment opportunities.

Chairman of the Reception Committee Logie Naidoo said, “the conference was created to bring together the Indian diaspora and to strengthen economic links between the different countries.”

The conference, organised by the World Tamil Economic Federation and the Madras Development Society, will take place between the 16th and 19th of November and will see Indians from countries in East Asia, Australia, the Middle East and across African in attendance.

Keynote speakers on the programme will be providing first-hand insight into the experiences of top entrepreneurs.

The speakers at the conference are a mix of South Africans and international speakers and are highly ranked personalities from fields of business and government.

Some of the speakers come from countries like Mauritius, Malaysia and Singapore. Others are from the different Indian states like Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. “The people that are coming are involved in mining, they are involved in the manufacturing sector and industrial manufacturing including cement, Naidoo said. .

On the list of South African speakers are businessmen like Vivian Reddy, owner of Edison Power and Rajen Pillay, CEO of Garuda Capital.

At the inauguration ceremony, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu and King Goodwill Zwelithini Kabhekuzulu will join dignitaries from Guyana, Mauritius and India to start the conference. Topics like investment and business opportunities in South Africa & African Continent and global situation & economic opportunities will be discussed.

Naidoo has explained that having the conference in Durban will be a great opportunity to showcase the city. promote tourism and economic links.”It is a big boost for tourism besides the business that will be done at the conference where there will be economic linkages taking place, Naidoo said.

The last World Tamil Economic Conference took place in Chennai in 2016.
