Adani Green Energy: Pioneering Renewable Energy Solutions in South Africa

Adani Green Energy Eyes South Africa’s $25 Billion Grid Expansion

Johannesburg, October 30, 2025 – Adani Green Energy, a subsidiary of India’s Adani Group, has emerged as a key contender in South Africa’s ambitious $25 billion transmission grid expansion project. The initiative, launched in December 2024, aims to construct 14,000 kilometers of high-voltage lines to integrate 34 gigawatts (GW) of wind and 25 GW of solar capacity over the next 14 years. The Independent Transmission Projects (ITP) program has attracted interest from 17 companies and consortia, including Adani Power’s Middle East unit, China Southern Power Grid International, State Grid International Development Co., and France’s EDF Power Solutions. The first phase of the project focuses on building 1,164 kilometers of lines, aiming to bring over 3,000 MW of new capacity online. (energycapitalpower.com)

Gautam Adani, founder and chairman of the Adani Group, has expressed confidence in the company’s ability to contribute significantly to South Africa’s energy infrastructure. “Our expertise in large-scale renewable energy projects positions us well to support South Africa’s transition to a sustainable energy future,” Adani stated.

The ITP program is a cornerstone of South Africa’s strategy to modernize its energy grid and reduce reliance on aging coal infrastructure. By incorporating substantial renewable energy sources, the country aims to meet its growing electricity demand while addressing environmental concerns.

The evaluation of pre-qualification submissions is expected to conclude by November 2025, paving the way for a competitive request-for-proposals process. This initiative not only underscores Adani Green Energy’s commitment to expanding its global footprint but also highlights the increasing role of international partnerships in advancing South Africa’s renewable energy objectives.
