Dabur India Ltd to acquire two South African companies

Dabur India Ltd on Wednesday said it will acquire two South African companies through its step-down subsidiary Dabur South Africa (Pty) Ltd for 50 million Rand in cash. This includes the acquisition of D&A Cosmetics Proprietary Ltd for about 48 million Rand and Atlanta Body & Health Products Proprietary Ltd for two million rand, the company said in a stock market disclosure.

D&A Cosmetics develops, makes and sells personal care and hair care products to wholesale and retail customers in South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Botswana and Lesotho. It was founded in 2000. The company reported a revenue of 24 million Rand in 2016. Founded in 1995, Atlanta Body & Health Products sells and distributes brand products for salons in South Africa. It generated a revenues of rand 2.9 million in FY2016.

The acquisition is a part of Dabur India’s expansion plan to South Africa. In November, the company said it will acquire the personal care, hair care and creams businesses of South Africa-based CTL Group of Companies for 18.8 million South African rand (around $1.5 million). In July 2016, Dabur India acquired South African cosmetics manufacturing and trading firm Discaria in its first takeover deal.

The company had made its first foreign acquisition in 2010 by buying Hobi Kozmetik Group, a leading personal care products company in Turkey, for $69 million. It had also acquired US-based Namaste Laboratories for $100 million the same year.
