MOIL Expands Global Footprint with Manganese Exploration in Gabon and South Africa

January 8, 2025

Manganese Ore India Limited (MOIL), India’s leading producer of manganese ore, is set to embark on its first international mining venture by exploring opportunities in Gabon and South Africa. The state-owned enterprise has completed due diligence in Gabon and is preparing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gabonese government for manganese ore exploration and mining. Discussions for similar projects are also underway in South Africa. (newsonprojects.com)

Gabon holds approximately 25% of the world’s manganese resources, while South Africa possesses the largest reserves globally. This strategic expansion aims to secure critical raw materials and strengthen MOIL’s position in the global manganese market. (steelorbis.com)

Domestically, MOIL continues to enhance its production capabilities. In November 2024, the company achieved a record production of 163,000 tonnes of manganese ore, marking the best November performance since its inception. During the first eight months of the fiscal year 2025, MOIL produced 1.18 million tonnes, an 8.46% increase over the same period last year. (business-standard.com)

These initiatives reflect MOIL’s commitment to meeting the growing global demand for manganese ore, essential for steelmaking and various industrial applications.
