This SEZ, situated adjacent to Aggeneys, spans over 1,200 hectares within VZI’s Black Mountain Mining (BMM) property. VZI committed R16 billion as the anchor investor, earmarked for the development of the Gamsberg Zinc Mine and the proposed Gamsberg Zinc Smelter, contingent upon the South African government’s infrastructure development and incentives framework. Renewable Energy Initiatives

Demonstrating a commitment to sustainable practices, VZI signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Enernet Global in September 2023. This agreement involves the construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance of a 12 MW DC solar photovoltaic plant to supply power to BMM’s operations in the Northern Cape. The plant is projected to generate approximately 29 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, reducing carbon emissions by about 12,244 tonnes per year compared to traditional Eskom supply. In May 2025, VZI broke ground on the Vedanta Oncology Project at the Dr. van Niekerk Hospital in Springbok, Namakwa District. This R22 million investment aims to establish a chemotherapy treatment center with ten stations, capable of treating up to 240 patients monthly.
